This past April, Jack Maxwell performed his unique style of magic at The South Florida Interactive Marketing Association's (SFIMA)Night in Monte Carlo Casino Night Charity Event. The entertaining evening raised $10,000 for Broward County's Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Celebra Cadabra Reality Magic Show on VH1

Performing magic is getting a reality show twist over on Vh1 with Celebra Cadabra. Celebra Cadabra is a reality show in which stars are teamed up with professional magicians who teach them how to perform different magic tricks, magical effects and illusions. Each week the celebrities learn a different type of magic and a celebrity magician is voted out and literally disappears from the show. Celebra Cadabra is filmed at the world famous Magic Castle in California. Tune into VH1 Sunday nights to see which celebrity will become the ultimate celebrity magician.

Street Magic, Children's Magic, Comedy Magic, Cabaret Magic, Strolling Magic, Phobia Magic -- our celebs do it (or at least attempt to do it) all. Their work will be judged by a panel of 3 superstar magicians. Each week, one of the celebrities will be eliminated, until the final two battle it out in Las Vegas for our Grand Illusion finale.

A Simple Magic Trick Gets Teacher Fired!?

What a sad day for magic when a simple toothpick disappearance trick costs a Florida substitute teacher his job. Magic and creativity should be a vital part of schooling and lessons, rather than forbidden. According to the TampaBays10.com website:

Substitute teacher Jim Piculas does a 30-second magic trick where a toothpick disappears then reappears.

But after performing it in front of a classroom at Rushe Middle School in Land 'O Lakes, Piculas said his job did a disappearing act of its own.

"I get a call the middle of the day from the supervisor of substitute teachers. He says, 'Jim, we have a huge issue. You can't take any more assignments. You need to come in right away,'" he said.

Piculas was charged with "Wizardry"! Imagine that!? I wonder if punishment for that is detention at Hogwarts!?

I would hope that teachers would be applauded and congratulated rather than shunned or fired for finding creative ways, such as magic, to keep the attention of students and aide in lesson plans. There are many ways for teachers, parents or day care providers to entertain and teach with magic.

At The Shop & On The Road

On 4/14/08, Rich Tieger, The Hollywood Balloon Man, wowed the toddlers from Tutor Time with a pre-school program held at Wizard's. No balloon left unblown! Jack has also recently entered into an arrangement with Tutor Time to provide an after school and camp program teaching magic to the kiddies. Local businesses should be proud to support enterprises like this that direct our children in positive directions. Again, contact Wizard's for the low down.

Jack has also been doing the Career Day rounds local elementary schools. Could this have anything to do with being the proud father of a five year old daughter? Hmm.

Jack's Career Day presentation is not just about the joys of being a professional magician. He also shares the trials and triumphs he has experienced in growing his own business. Jack knows his stuff and knows how to connect with young minds and hearts and the feedback has been extraordinarily positive.

Jack was also busy performing for the big kids these last few weeks. A highlight was on 4/17/08 at the Florida LeGrande Resort on the 17th Street Causeway in Fort Lauderdale where Jack performed magic for the South Florida Interactive Marketing Association's Casino Night. The event was a hit and special thanks to FDMA for the special arrangements.
